Dust Suppression Mist Cannons for Iron Ore Mine

Background: 

A prominent iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia produces around 30 million tonnes of iron ore per year. 

Challenge: 

Mine stockpiles posed a problem as dust drifted onto areas of heritage and cultural significance. The goal was to minimise dust drift, reduce residual impact and help preserve flora and fauna. 

The mine sought an effective built for purpose solution for addressing these issues. CoolMist® Systems Australia, a renowned provider of dust control and suppression solutions, was engaged to devise a strategy for tackling dust migration from the stockpile areas. 

Solution: 

CoolMist® delivered a fit for purpose solution with a total of 8 AJET® Mist Cannons designed and customised for autonomous operation in conjunction with site needs. Four AJ80 trailer mount mist cannons complete with control panel and generator, and four AJ150 truck mount mist cannons complete with control panel and generator. Each model has a throw of 80 metres and 150 metres respectively. Automatic oscillation and generous vertical tilt allow wide-ranging area coverage.

Outcome: 

The dust suppression machines effectively produce large amounts of mist droplets that are nearly the same size as the dust particles in the air. The small size of the water droplets enables them to easily combine with the dust particles by absorbing moisture. This triggers a significant agglomeration effect, causing the dust particles to quickly join together to form much heavier particles that settle due to gravity.
